I have the honour to inform you that on the

30th. ultimo, I telegraphed to you to the following effect:-

Your telegram 5th, December much regret delay due from

various causes. Total amounts reported up to date are

as follows Class A £1,680.75 Class C $66,095.00 Class D

89,512.34 Class 41,123.81 Class G 53,810.00. Property

in hands of liquidators of German Firms will be included when liquidation finished. Liquidation assets already

invested with Var Loan amount to £466,863.

The delay, which I much regret, was due partly to the fact that the liquidators of various German Firms were unable to furnish particu- -lars until their liquidations were completed and that the Banks

could not properly ascertain the correct value of enemy moneys in their possession until the 31st. December when their yearly balances were struck, and partly to the fact that the Colonial Treasurer, Mr. A. M. Thomson, was compelled on account of illness to leave the Colony at the beginning of the hot weather and that later Mr. G. N. Orme, whom I had appointed to the special work of collecting and dealing with the necessary statistics with a view to greater expedition in the matter, was obliged also to leave the Colony from

a similar cause. The latter officer has now returned and I hope

HE RIGHT HONOURABLE

WALTER LONG, M.P
